walking near Orleans & Royal when she was approached by two unknown
white males. One suspect grabbed the victim’s purse and pulled it
from her grasp. The suspects then fled on foot.



Responding officers apprehended the suspect, Richard Dennis, W/M,
6-15-89, and retrieved the victim’s purse. Additional information on

On Sunday, August 15, 2010, at 9:15pm, the victim, W/F, was in the
business at 640 Bourbon when she was approached by two unknown black
males. One suspect grabbed the victim’s purse from her lap and fled
from the business. The suspect dropped the purse as he fled, and the
victim attempted to retrieve it. The second suspect attempted to take
the purse from the victim, but the victim resisted. The second
suspect then fled.



Responding officers apprehended the second suspect, Ronald Gordon, B/

New Orleans LA,-As required by the Louisiana Supreme Court, the New
Orleans Police Department is issuing a public advisory regarding a
sobriety checkpoint that will be conducted today.



The New Orleans Police Department’s Traffic Division will conduct a
sobriety checkpoint, in the Warehouse District, beginning at
approximately 10:00 P.M. and will conclude at approximately 5:00 A.M.
Motorists will experience minimal delays and should have the proper
documentation available if requested, i.e., proof of insurance,
driver’s license, etc.



Members of the New Orleans Police Department would like to, as always,
remind motorists to drink responsibly and use a designated driver.

New Orleans, La. - With the 2010 school session upon us, New Orleans
Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas would like to remind motorists to
be alert for children boarding or exiting school buses. Louisiana law
requires that if any school or church bus used in the transportation
of children is stopped upon a roadway for the purpose of receiving or
discharging passengers, with the stop arm and signal lights activated,
the operator of a vehicle approaching from any direction shall bring
his vehicle to a stop and shall not proceed until the bus has
completed receiving or discharging passengers and has been put in
motion. Disregarding a school bus stop arm is a serious violation and
one that school bus drivers are quick to report. Any person who
violates this law will be cited and or summoned.

Another concern is speeding in school zones. Be aware of the school
zones in your area and remember to adjust your speed. Observe the
posted speed limit in marked school zones when children are present or
when the yellow school zone lights are flashing. There will be an
increase in police presence in and around schools. Please instruct
your child to cross wherever Crossing Guards are available. They are
there to assist in the safe crossing of pedestrians and children.



Superintendent Serpas stated: “The safety of our children is
paramount. Most injuries to our children each year can be avoided by
following the below safety tips”.



Additional Safety tips for parents and students



Walking

· Ensure your child leaves early enough to get to school prior
to the start of school.

· Use the same route every day and avoid shortcuts.

· Go straight home after school.

· Students should use public sidewalks when walking to
school.

· Choose the safest route between home and school and practice
walking it with children until they can demonstrate traffic safety
awareness.

· Walk to school with other students when available. Strength
in numbers.

· Teach children to recognize and obey traffic signals and
pavement markings.

· Cross- at designated crosswalks, street corners and traffic
controlled intersections.

· Always look both ways before crossing the street and never
enter streets from between parked cars or from behind shrubbery.

· Walk- don't run- across intersections. The crossing guard in
the street does not mean its safe to cross.

· Avoid talking to strangers and get distance between
themselves and anyone who tries to approach or make contact with
them.

· Never get into a vehicle with a person even if they know
them without parents permission. If a stranger approaches, tell a
trusted adult such as a parent or teacher.

· That includes taking a ride from a stranger or someone they
know without parent's permission.

Riding Bicycles

Bicycles are associated with more childhood injuries than any other
consumer product except the car. To make sure children are safe when
riding bicycles to school:

· Check with your school principal to make sure bicycles are
allowed. Some schools do not allow students to ride bicycles until a
specific grade.

· Obey rules of the road; the rules are the same for all
vehicles, including bicycles.

· Stay on the right-hand side of the road and ride in the same
direction as traffic.

· Know and use appropriate hand signals.

· Choose the safest route between home and school and practice
it with children until they can demonstrate traffic safety awareness.

Riding the Bus

Although bus travel is one of the safest ways to get to and from
school, injuries can still occur, and most of them take place when
children are getting on or off the bus. Some safety tips for riding
the bus are:

· Arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before the
scheduled arrival of the bus.

· Stay out of the street and don't horseplay while waiting.

· Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before getting
on or off.

· Remain seated and keep head and arms inside the bus at all
times.

· Do not shout or distract the driver.

· Do not walk in the driver's "blind spot" – the area from the
front of the bus to about 10 feet in front of the bus.

Driving

Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of unintentional injury-
related deaths among children age 14 and under. To reduce the risk of
injury:

· Always use child safety seats and safety belts correctly
when driving or riding in a car.

· Arrive early- especially the first few weeks of school- and
use the school's designated student drop- off and pick- up zone.

· Do not double park or make u-turns in front of the school.
Police officers are issuing citations for traffic violations and there
is no warning or grace period.

· Children should enter and leave the car on its curbside.

· Pick your child up on time so they aren't left waiting near
or out front of the school unattended.

walking near S Rampart & Union when she was approached by an unknown
black male. The suspect grabbed the victim’s purse and attempted to
pull it from her grasp. The victim resisted and managed to maintain
control of her purse. The suspect then fled into a white Jeep
Cherokee which fled on S Rampart toward Poydras, then unknown.



The suspect is described as a black male, 5’07”, 160lbs, thin build,
wearing white polo shirt and khaki pants.

The suspects are described as (1) a black male, 16-18 y/o, 6’00”,
140lbs, medium dreads, wearing bright orange shirt, and (2) a black
male, 13-15 y/o, 120lbs, short hair.

On Sunday, August 8, 2010, at 10:33pm, the victims, 22 y/o W/M & 20 y/
o W/F, were walking on Bourbon when they met an unknown black male who
told them he could take them to a party. They victims agreed and
followed the black male into a parking garage in the 800 block of
Iberville. Once there, a second suspect approached and produced a
pistol and demanded money. The victims complied and the suspects fled
on foot in an unknown direction.



The suspects are described as (1) a black male, 20-25 y/o, 6’00”,
150lbs, short hair, medium complexion, wearing a red shirt and dark
pants, and (2) a black male, 20-25 y/o, 6’03”, 140lbs, medium dreads,
wearing a dark shirt and dark baggy pants.

two unknown black males. One suspect produced a pistol and demanded
that the victims drop their valuables. The victims complied and the

on Commerce toward the Canal, then unknown.



The suspects are described as (1) a black male, 20-25 y/o,
5’07”-5’09”, 130-140lbs, wearing all dark clothing, and (2) a black
male, slightly taller and heavier than suspect 1, also wearing all
dark clothing.

On Friday, August 6, 2010, at 12:30am, the victim, 41 y/o W/M, was
working at 240 Decatur when he observed a black male attempting to
enter the bar. The black male had been told in the past that he was
not welcome at the establishment. When the victim attempted to
confront the suspect, the suspect reached into a bag that he was
carrying and produced a pistol. The suspect then fled on foot in an
unknown direction.



The suspect is described as a black male, 5’08”, 140lbs, 23-27 y/o,
shoulder length dreads, wearing a white t-shirt and carrying a black
backpack.

On Thursday, August 5, 2010, at 12:18am, the victim, 18 y/o W/M, was
near Bourbon & Iberville when he became involved in a verbal
altercation with an unknown black male. Several friends of the
unknown male joined the altercation and one of the suspects reached
into the victim’s pocket and removed some cash. The suspects then
fled on foot on Bourbon toward Canal.



An officer witnessed the incident and the suspects, Emile Young, B/M,
7-7-90, Rodney Johnson, B/M, 12-6-89, and Trevonne Cargo, B/M,
7-26-91, were apprehended. Additional information on this arrest and/

the 700 block of Bourbon when she was approached by an unknown black
male. The suspect asked the victim for some money. When the victim
refused, the suspect grabbed the victim’s iPhone from her hand. The
suspect then fled on foot on Bourbon toward Orleans. The victim gave
chase and the suspect was apprehended.



Responding Officers arrested the suspect, who is a juvenile.

attempting to enter his vehicle in the 1000 block of Annunciation when
he was approached by an unknown black male. The suspect produced a
pistol and demanded the victim’s car. The victim complied, and the
suspect took the vehicle and fled on Annunciation toward Calliope,
then unknown.



The victim’s vehicle was a silver 2007 Acura MDX (SUV) bearing
Louisiana license plate TFY 514.



The suspect is described as a black male, 5’10”, 150lbs, light
moustache, wearing a green or grey t-shirt, blue jeans and a black
ball cap with a yellow “P” on it.

On Thursday, August 5, 2010, at 12:18am, the victim, 18 y/o W/M, was
near Bourbon & Iberville when he became involved in a verbal
altercation with an unknown black male. Several friends of the
unknown male joined the altercation and one of the suspects reached
into the victim’s pocket and removed some cash. The suspects then
fled on foot on Bourbon toward Canal.



An officer witnessed the incident and the suspects, Emile Young, B/M,
7-7-90, Rodney Johnson, B/M, 12-6-89, and Trevonne Cargo, B/M,
7-26-91, were apprehended. Additional information on this arrest and/
or any subsequent prosecution can be obtained via the Docket Master at

On Saturday, July 24, 2010, at 3:00am, the victim, 28 y/o B/M, was in
his hotel room in the 300 block of St Joseph with a black female that
he had met earlier in the evening. The female pointed a pistol at the
victim. The suspect then fled on foot in an unknown direction. The
incident wasn’t reported to police until August 2, 2010.



The suspect is described as a black female with a stocky build.

On Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 9:10am, the victim, 45 y/o W/F, was
walking in the 1000 block of Dauphine when she was approached by an
unknown black male. The suspect produced a pistol and demanded the
victim’s purse. The victim complied and the suspect fled on foot on
Ursulines toward the River, then unknown.



The suspect is described as a black male, medium build, 20-25 y/o,
wearing a tan t-shirt and khaki shorts.

On Sunday, August 1, 2010, at 4:45am, the victim, 34 y/o W/M, was
walking in the 900 block of Burgundy when he was approached by an
unknown black male. The suspect produced a pistol and pointed it at
the victim. The victim grabbed the pistol and attempted to pull it
from the suspect’s grasp. The suspect fled on foot on Burgundy toward
Barracks, then unknown.



The suspect is described as a black male, 20-25 y/o, wearing a white t-
shirt and blue jeans.

Yesterday’s Crime Walk was a success and I would like to thank
everyone who participated. Members of the Eighth District walked the
beat with residents, City officials and Crimestoppers representatives
for almost 60 minutes. By coming together as one, we create
relationships that enhance our crime fighting abilities. We even had a
few people who joined us along the way. We expect to have more Crime
Walks in the near future and plan to focus on the DDD for our next

walking in the 900 block of Dauphine when she was approached by an
unknown black male. The suspect pushed the victim and then grabbed
the victim’s purse from her grasp. The suspect then fled on foot on
Dauphine toward Dumaine, then unknown.



The suspect is described as a black male, 6’00”, 30-35 y/o, short
hair, light complexion, wearing a long sleeve white shirt and black
pants.

shall be as follows:

Meeting Place: Jackson Square

Route: From Jackson Square turning left (with traffic) onto Decatur
Street, turning left again onto Dumaine (three blocks), right on
Bourbon (five blocks), cross over Esplanade (one block), right on
Kerlerec (two blocks), to Chartres, left on Frenchmen and Royal
(across the street from the park), then disbanding at Washington Park.
