NOPD Arrests Suspect in Hollygrove Murder

(December 12, 2011)-  The alleged triggerman in a fatal shooting in Hollygrove over the weekend turned himself in to New Orleans police today after the Department secured a warrant for his arrest.

32-year-old Kendrick Ferrell Sandifer is accused of gunning down 22-year-old Kalumba Cheneau shortly after 2am Sunday, December 11th.  The shooting happened inside a bar in the 8800-block of Edinburgh Street.  Cheneau was shot multiple times in the head and upper body, and died on the scene.

After NOPD issued a warrant for his arrest yesterday, Sandifer’s lawyer surrendered him to Violent Offender Warrant Squad (VOWS) officers today. He was arrested and booked with Second Degree Murder.

Sandifer had previously been arrested for Resisting Police several times, Battery several times, Possession of Marijuana several times, Marijuana Distribution several times, Municipal Attachments, Warrants, Disturbing the Peace and Lewd Conduct in Public.

Kalumba Cheneau was previously arrested for Attempted Second Degree Murder, Felon with a Firearm, Assault with a Discharge, Simple Battery, Possession of Marijuana and Disturbing the Peace.

“This is another case cleared through focused detective work and members of the community who made the decision to come forward and help police get this violent offender off the street”, said Superintendent Ronal Serpas.  “This suspect knew that once we released his name and photo to the public, he had no choice but to turn himself in”, Serpas said.
