NOPD Makes Arrest in Recent Algiers Murder
(April 25, 2012)- New Orleans Police tonight arrested the man they believe gunned down a 15-year-old boy a few weeks ago outside an Algiers apartment complex.
18-year-old Kendal Marcelin is accused of fatally shooting the boy the night of April 3rd in the 2100-block of Springbrook Lane. The victim, who had been shot in the face, was found in a grassy area near the rear walkway of The Oakmont Apartments. He died on the scene.
Kendal Marcelin was already in custody after being arrested on April 18th for Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana.
Since the killing, members of the Algiers community came to police with information that led them to re-book Marcelin at around 5:30 tonight with the 15-year-old’s murder.
“When residents contact our detectives to give them critical information about murders, they advance us in our investigations, and bring us closer to making arrests”, said Superintendent Ronal Serpas. “The people of New Orleans have been and continue to be a tremendous help to us, and we hope they continue to partner with us in our efforts to make our city a safer place.”
