NOPD Investigating Homicide on South Broad Street
(May 12, 2012)- Today New Orleans Police continue to investigate a violent assault on a local woman who at first survived the attack, but died of her injuries this morning at a local hospital.
58-year-old Sandra Jefferson was found at around 3:30 yesterday morning lying in a pool of blood inside her home in the 3400-block of South Broad Street. Her husband told investigators that he found his wife in this condition and made the call to 9-1-1.
Mrs. Jefferson was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where she remained in critical condition until she died at approximately 1:30 this morning.
Initially, it appeared Mrs. Jefferson had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. But those treating her at the hospital later told investigators that after further medical examination, they concluded that she had not been shot. An autopsy to reveal the exact cause of death could be performed today.
Detectives conducted some interviews yesterday and continue to gather information and collect evidence in this case, which has been elevated from an “aggravated assault” to a “homicide” investigation.
If anyone knows anything about this crime, they’re asked to call CrimeStoppers at (504) 822-1111. You will not have to give your name, and if your tip helps lead to an arrest and eventual indictment in this case, you could be eligible for a cash reward.
