NOPD Investigating a Fatality that left a 31-Year-Old Man Dead
The New Orleans Police Department’s Fatality Unit is investigating a fatality that left a 31-year-old man dead. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members. The incident occurred tonight shortly after 9:30 P.M. on Interstate 10 Westbound before the Read Boulevard exit.
The 31-year-old man was traveling westbound in a gray 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck when for reasons unknown, struck a beige 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier causing his truck to spin out of control. The 25-year-old driver of the Cavalier subsequently pulled over into the emergency lane on the right side of the interstate and the 31-year-old man pulled his vehicle into the emergency lane on the left side of the interstate. The man then exited his vehicle and crossed the interstate on foot to check on the driver of the Cavalier. As the man proceeded back across the interstate to his vehicle, he was struck by a red Mazda being driven by a 24-year-old female. After the man was struck, the driver of the Mazda was attempting to stop when a red 2008 Chevrolet HHR, driven by a 17-year-old male, struck the Mazda in the rear. The 31-year-old man died on the scene. The 24-year-old female suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital by Emergency Medical Technicians.
Blood and alcohol tests are pending.
The Orleans Parish Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
